About the Speaker
David L. Brody is Professor of Neurology at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, the US Military Medical School, located in Bethesda Maryland. He is an MD, PhD trained, board certified neurologist with both a research and clinical specialization in traumatic brain injury and neurodegenerative diseases. He sees patients with traumatic brain injury, anomalous health incidents, and related neurological conditions at the National Intrepid Center of Excellence, part of the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. He serves as the Chief Science Officer/Chief Innovations Officer of the Military Traumatic Brain Injury Initiative (formerly known as Center for Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine) where he is leading 3 randomized controlled trials of candidate therapeutics for military-relevant traumatic brain injury and developing new technologies for prolonged field care use. He also leads a laboratory research group focused on developing new methods for molecular contrast brain imaging.
He received his undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences from Stanford University where he was also a varsity Fencer. He completed the Medical Scientist Training Program at The Johns Hopkins University, with an MD, and PhD in Biomedical Engineering. He completed Internal Medicine internship and Neurology residency at Barnes Jewish Hospital/Washington University in St Louis. He was on faculty at Washington University as an Instructor, Assistant, Associate and Full Professor until 2017 when he joined the faculty at USU. He has served as PI or Co-PI on awards from NINDS, Defense Medical Research and Development Program, Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program, United States Special Operations Command, F-Prime, Defense Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Cure Alzheimer’s Fund, National Football League Charities, and Bright Focus Foundation. He was a recipient of a Burroughs Wellcome Career Award in the Biomedical Sciences and an NINDS K08 career development award. He also serves as Editor-in-chief of Journal of Neurotrauma.
